A quick prediction:
By 2025, the marketing frenzy we know currently as ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y Fortnight’ (formerly known simply as ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y’, back when it was just one day, then ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y Week’) will have become ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y Quarter’.
Only it won’t really be a calendar quarter, strictly speaking…
It’ll begin at the start of the school summer holidays and end just in time for Valentine’s Day the following year, so as not to infringe upon the oldest and sauciest made-up-shopping-period of the year.
Look man, I’m as big a fan of Fridays as anyone, and I dig the colour black (the Berliner’s wardrobe staple).
But I’m a wee bit cynical about all the ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y’ hoo-ha that’s sprouted up this past few years. Hard not to be…
Still, there are bargains to be had over the next few days, and I won’t blame you for jumping on ‘em.
I don’t want to be Johnny Bringdown – we all love a discount after all.
I’ll probably even grab something myself, curmudgeonly as I feel at this time of year…
But I promise you won’t see me on the TV news wrestling fellow shoppers to the ground in my desperation to get hold of a half-price grilled-sandwich maker (lessons learned, fines paid.) (Just kidding).
The question is though:
Should you indulge in a ‘Bl*ck Fr*d*y’ promo as a biz-owner?
Well, to ask and answer a slightly different question, do you HAVE to join in?
Of course not.
Just because (almost) everyone else is doing it is no reason to do anything, really.
Some might say it’s a damn good reason NOT to follow the herd.
Especially if you want to stand out as having something truly unique to offer. That kind of value isn’t determined by a date on someone else’s calendar.
I get it: sometimes, swimming upstream can be hard…
But when you choose your own path and walk it confidently, people notice.
Do it well, and they’ll start to Know, Like & Trust you too. And that’s a big step towards building something special.
If you want to stand out by bringing more of what’s truly ‘you’ into your business next year, this could help.
PS – it’s available in any colour and on any day of the week ; )
